You’ve heard of a Renaissance Man, someone with a wide knowledge of many skills.

Well, Nic is a modern trans renaissance queer. They have a background in many performance disciplines. Growing up in the theater, and working odd jobs to support their artistic career, they have a wide variety of experience/skills including, but not limited to:

Background:

Nic A. Sommerfeld (they/them) was born and raised in Montana. They grew up in the theatre, inspired by their mother, who had been a professional actress. They grew up taking dance classes, and once they did their first musical at 8 years old they were hooked. They’ve been involved in theater ever since. Growing up in community theater they participated in many aspects of theater beyond just performing on the stage.

In 2009 they moved to California to finish their university education at Santa Clara University. They graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts (Acting and Playwriting Emphasis) with a minor in Musical Theater. Since graduating they have work all around the San Francisco Bay Area in many aspects of the theatrical arts.

When they began their coming out journey in 2015, they worried their career as an actor may be over. Luckily, that same year they were introduced to the drag community of San Francisco. In 2016 they began performing as the Drag King, Chester Vanderbox. They focused more of their attention on drag until the world of theater welcomed them back. They proudly identify as Trans/Non-binary.

They have written and had many short plays produced. In 2020 they switched their focus to writing more full length plays. Through this exploration they began collaborating with Lauren Gunderson. Since then they’ve been working with Lauren as her Playwrighting Assistant, and have started working with more playwrights as an editor, script captain, trans consultant, and dramaturg.
